Last week I shared my exclusive lessons and take regarding my visit to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Here is the last part of that post, and my final outlook on that trip, for now.
Well, who knows, I may have something else to say regarding this visit another day in the future😉
Just in case you are wondering; why Colonial Williamsburg? Or maybe why history?
Mahatma Gandhi says and I quote:
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
Here’s the deal!
I LOVE LEARNING.
I love to be in the know of things. PERIOD.
I am one of those that believe that the moment we stop learning, we start dying. Historical lessons are indispensable for a better future.
Now, let’s dig in!
Colonial Williamsburg Visit Lessons Part 2:
When you know Better you do Better.
Let’s just say that maybe, only maybe, the colonial officers didn’t know any better when they embarked on colonialism and slavery, what about when they realized that it was really an ugly atrocity?
What about apologizing, making amends and stopping immediately after such realization?
When it comes to Apology, it’s really never too late.
Yes, colonization and slavery happened long time ago, yet, I don’t think it is too late for the people and the continent that were mistreated to receive a formal apology. I do honestly think a genuine formal apology can heal the world a little more.
After Struggle comes Success.
You know this right? Struggle strengthens you and makes you stronger. Do I sincerely wish slavery on anyone so they can become stronger?
But the fact is, your background should not be the reason why your back is still on the ground. This is the time for you to reclaim your blessings and repossess your possessions!
Find Strength in your struggle. Success lies in it as well.
Just in case you are going through something crazy or sleazy, know that it will soon pass, without struggle there won’t be success.
Make your Opinion Count.
Ok, maybe, I should just say make your stand known? Well, you got where am going with this.
Dear champion, your opinion is powerful. Your opinion reveals your stand. Make it matter. You may not always be able to change other people’s opinion, but, be sure to make your stand known. Do not be hot and cold at the same time. You cannot allow yourself to be stuck in the middle of nowhere.
It is disgraceful that colonial employees sheepishly obeyed their masters even at the highest despotic dominion of other human lives.
We can learn from this and become true champions of good causes. Do not turn a blind eye to the mistreatment that is going on around you. You could be saving a life by speaking out. Be a light. Save a life.
Have Faith in Humanity, still.
It is easy to get caught up in judging the wrongness of the colonial era that we loose faith and trust in humankind. But the bible reminds us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Find a way to forgive the past and have faith for your future needs it.
It is hard to build really cool relationships without faith and/or trust. When it comes to faith, action is the pivotal point. Action speaks louder than words.
Have faith that today will be better than yesterday, and that tomorrow will be better than today. Have faith that the good you do to others will come back to you! Remember,
“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
What’s the real story?
Sometimes things happen that you may never be able to explain.
Or you may always struggle to explain.
The most important thing then becomes; what lessons can you learn, from such things.
And how can you move on without hurt and hate?
How can you become better than what happened to you?
The truth is that:
You are stronger than your strength.
You have the power to persevere.
Your background does not equal your breakthrough.
Your FAITH determines your BREAKTHROUGH.
Have faith in who you are, Champion.
You have the right to live a good life.
YES, YOU DO!
